Teaching Artists

Art works now is seeking energetic and dynamic teaching artists and educators to join our team! If you are a self-motivated, independent instructor with a strong background in visual and/or performing arts, we would love to hear from you!

Art Works Now is committed to building and nurturing community through inclusive visual arts and social justice experiences. We offer classes to students of all ages and abilities and provide them with age-appropriate, high-quality arts learning experiences. Our Teaching Artists (TAs) embody our values and ethics and are able to convey them to students through class themes and projects.

Meet the Art Works Now Team

We accept applications for Teaching Artists and Teaching Artist Assistant positions on a rolling basis for the following sessions:

      • Fall Session: September – December
      • Winter Session: January – March/Early April
      • Spring Session: April – June
      • Summer Session: June – August/Early September

Location

Onsite at 4800 Rhode Island Ave, Hyattsville, MD.
There is also some flexibility to teach remotely via Zoom.

Contract Facilities Coordinator

We are seeking a part-time, contract Facilities Coordinator. This position is responsible for overseeing the cleaning, maintenance, upkeep and safety of our 4,000 square foot, 2-story building with basement, exterior courtyard, parking lot and grounds.

HOURS & DUTIES
In this role, you will work an average of 10-15 hours per week. You will have the option of supervising a third-party cleaning contractor, or increasing your hours by taking over the regular cleaning duties. And, you can choose a partial-remote schedule after 90 days (must work at least 8 hours each week on-site at 4800 Rhode Island Avenue, Hyattsville, MD). As an independent contractor, you will enjoy the benefits of a flexible schedule, remote opportunities and competitive pay. You choose your pay frequency by invoicing on a monthly or twice-monthly schedule.

Key duties include: ensuring standards for building safety, cleanliness and organization are met; managing cleaning and facility supplies; inspecting and servicing facilities and equipment to maintain proper working order; completing basic janitorial work orders in a timely manner; managing maintenance schedules, repairs and inspections for facility, major systems and equipment; managing facility vendors and contractors; coordinating with leadership to manage facility policies, budget, emergency preparedness plan and files; assist with set-up and break-down for programs and special events as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires: prolonged periods of standing, sitting at a desk and working on a computer; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to access and navigate all areas of the facility and various equipment; and ability to perform work in a variety of weather conditions.

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

    • Minimum 2 years work experience (prior janitorial experience is a plus)
    • Ambitious, strategic thinker with a positive, “go-getter” attitude
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to negotiate with vendors, contractors and staff  Basic computer skills
    • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
    • Ability to understand written directions and technical instructions
    • Understanding of building systems
    • Must pass criminal background check (fingerprinting)

RATE
$22 / hour

Class Proposals

Art Works Now is accepting proposals for visual art and/or performing arts classes and workshops for our upcoming seasons.

We invite emerging, mid-career, and established artists and/or educators who are interested in teaching a class to submit a proposal. We are looking for individuals who can demonstrate a strong background in painting, drawing, sculpture, textiles, clay, digital arts, arts integration, and S.T.E.A.M.

Proposals* will be accepted on an on-going basis and assessed based on alignment with our Vision, Mission, and Values.
