Thank You for Joining the Ride – Help Us End the Year on a High Note

Dear Friends,

Every year at this time I am given the opportunity to express my gratitude for all that you’ve done to support the work we do throughout the year. In reflecting on the year that is coming to a close, I’m doing a lot of mental sorting. How do we talk about all the good that has happened while acknowledging the challenges?

Because we are in such challenging times, it’s more important than ever to celebrate goodness and hope whenever we can. And that’s why I’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate you. Your generosity of spirit and resources have made this the greatest year in our seven year history. Thank you for making 2017 such a creative year for our community.

Here’s a snapshot of the highlights of 2017 here at Art Works Now:

  • We moved in! We are now fully engaged in our new 4,000 square foot facility in Hyattsville, Maryland. If you haven’t seen our new space, please give me a call and let’s set up a tour!
  • Several members of our staff went through over 100 hours of professional development training to become better educators.

  • Our summer camps became state licensed which means we are up to date on all the important things we need to know and do to share a safe and inspiring summer with your kids.

  • We had the tremendous joy of working with over 400 kids and teens in programs at three area elementary schools and two county high schools.

  • Our first ever on-site after school program opened this fall and we have 25 kids enrolled in our new Art Club. Next school year we will be offering transportation opportunities!

  • The Harriet Sandler Scholarship Fund was created in order to strengthen our ability to provide access to creative education for all of the children of our community.

  • We have expanded our educational programming to include more skills-based classes for kids, teens, and adults; one of the most exciting programs is our new pottery classes!

  • We created and installed two public artworks in partnership with area artists, local schools and the Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council.

  • We’ve expanded our programming with area senior citizens and adults with disabilities.

We’re looking to 2018 as another year of opportunities to support the creativity of our community members. We’re going to be:

  • Taking our after school programming to the next level, making access to arts education possible for more school age children.

  • Adding classes in animation and cartoon for kids and youth.

  • Adding daytime classes for adults, particularly seniors.

  • Expanding partnerships with area organizations and municipalities.

  • Making improvements to our outdoor play space so that it’s more beautiful and more comfortable for everyone, especially our kids.

And I’d love to know what you imagine is possible through Art Works’ programs and partnerships. Please contact me at if you have any thoughts or ideas you’d like to share or if you’d like to get involved in making 2018 a more creative year for all of us.

Thank you for making all of these opportunities, and all of these imaginings possible. I sincerely hope we have lived up to your expectations of us. We exist for our community. We truly believe that art works to change and enhance lives. And we hope you will consider making Art Works Now one of the organizations you include in your year-end giving. To do so, you can send us a check or just click here.

To you and your family, Happy Holidays from everyone at Art Works Now!
